The more I learn about him, the more I realize that Geoffrey Chaucer was a big geek. He wrote an astrolabe treatise, the fourteenth century equivalent of a programming manual. He recorded his works in books when papermaking was limited to only a few places in southern Europe. Few people would be able to read his poems; most books were instructional and reserved for universities. The only private persons collecting and reading books were the technology-and-knowledge-happy haves -- the have-nots ...

re: writing our names on the moon

This is excellent, Brian! I've rarely seen a debut feature so self-assured and clear. Funny in the past, present, and future. The only thing more spot-on hilarious than your column is your bio. Please continue to contribute.

re: writing our names on the moon

Nice column. It's especially relevent to this site because it deals with writing and with preserving writing. This is a great, original topic (at least for this site) as well as well-written and informative.

re: writing our names on the moon

Nice writing style. Good layout of thoughts provided readable flow. Only criticism: The ending really needed some punch to it. A resolution or summary rather than just a stagnate dissolve.

re: writing our names on the moon

I really enjoyed reading this. The title is fantastic, and many of your points are spot-on.

re: writing our names on the moon

Really nice piece here, keep up the good work. You have a really good voice, here: glib and clever while still passing a lot of good information and advice onto the reader. I hope you have a hardcopy of this, somewhere.

re: cash 'n' carry

This is freakin' brilliant.

re: cash 'n' carry

This is brilliant. The sound effects make it. So well written I can hear it in my head and I read. Nice job on your first piece.

re: cash 'n' carry

This was absolutely great.

re: cash 'n' carry
